Supreme Farm Walk

TD Jones & Co

Warren Farm, Mollington

Mike is the fourth generation of the Jones family farming this farm, alongside his sister Caroline. Originally, they were dairy farmers, milking two herds—Fresians and

Jerseys. The Jersey milk went to MMB for pasteurisation and bottling, while the

Fresian milk was sold directly via two milk rounds supplying hotels and shops—

cutting out the middle man and delivering straight to market.

In 1997, they sold the milk herd and milk quota, keeping only the beef calves, and

purchased Ford Farm, Waverton. Waverton has deep agricultural roots,

recorded as “Wavretone” in the Domesday Book, with medieval field names still traceable today

Then in 1999, they acquired Meadow Farm, Hargrave

In 2008, after four years of planning negotiations, they rebuilt what is now known as Walk Mill, A mill has existed on this site since around 1200, and the current building was reconstructed atop the original foundations. The mill sits on the River Gowy.

Walk Mill operates as a water-powered, undershot watermill, milling Hereward

wheat grown on-site into stone-ground flour. Visitors can see the flour-making

process firsthand and explore the mill equipment in a multi-sensory, educational

environment.

This flour is used in the  Miller’s Kitchen café, and also sold direct or supplied to

local restaurants and shops. The onsite mill is open to the public and showcases

how traditional milling still works beautifully here in Cheshire.

In 2014, they purchased Hunters Farm. All of the farms, are steeped in history

from the doomsday era, continuing family run farms In the local area.

In 2021, four years ago the beef unit was significantly expanded, growing from

around 200 to 1,200 head. Looking to the future, they’re planning to install robotic

feeders for the cattle—a move towards automation that will support sustainable

and efficient farming.

Congratulations to the whole Jones family. We look forward to celebrating with you on Friday 14th November at the Awards Evening.

I am in partnership with my Dad, John.  We farm in Grappenhall and grow a variety of cereal crops- wheat, oats, barley, peas, beans and OSR. We have been at the farm since 1950 when my Grandfather moved from under his family company umbrella in the year he got married.  Most of the land we farm is in and around Grappenhall, we also own and farmland in Plumley. In 2014 I did my BASIS qualification and subsequently do all the agronomy on the farm.
