Class 16A - Early Potatoes First or Second
Conditions
Competitors may enter one or more classes but in each case, this must be a minimum of 5 acres. Where these are grown in the same field but as distinct commercial crops these may be entered and will be subject to the discretion of the judge.
Dates
16(a) Early Potatoes
- 11th June - Entries Close
- W/C 14th June - Judging will take Place
- TBC - Annual Presentation of Awards Dinner
- 31st Aug - Entries Close
- 1st Week in September- Judging will take Place
- November - Annual Presentation of Awards Dinner
Assessment
The judge will award marks for each of the following aspects:-
- Uniformity of the crop including evenness of spacing and growth.
- Disease control.
- Weed control.
- Potential yield and quality of tubers.
- Inputs used (chemicals/fertiliser) related to potential yield and quality Soil type, previous cropping, irrigation and use of organic manure (F.Y.M./Slurry) will be taken into account.
